How to choose the appropriate hardness of silicone products?
Analysis of silicone hardness grades and application areas
Silicone products have a wide range of hardness, from very soft 10 degrees to harder 280 degrees (special silicone rubber products). However, the most commonly used silicone products are usually between 30 and 70 degrees, which is the reference hardness range for most silicone products. The following is a detailed summary of the hardness of silicone products and their corresponding application scenarios:
1.≤10 ShoreA:
This type of silicone product is very soft and suitable for applications that require extremely high softness and comfort.
Application scenarios: molding of ultra-soft silicone molds that are difficult to demold for food, production of simulated prosthetic products (such as masks, sex toys, etc.), production of soft gasket products, etc.
2.15-25 Shore A:
This type of silicone product is still relatively soft, but slightly harder than 10-degree silicone, and is suitable for applications that require a certain degree of softness but also require a certain degree of shape retention.
Application scenarios: casting and molding of soft silicone molds, making of handmade soap and candle silicone molds, food-grade candy and chocolate layout molds or single manufacturing, molding of materials such as epoxy resin, mold manufacturing of small cement components and other products, and waterproof and moisture-proof potting applications that require mechanical properties.
3.30-40 Shore A:
This type of silicone product has moderate hardness and is suitable for applications that require a certain degree of hardness and shape retention but also require a certain degree of softness.
Application scenarios: Precision mold manufacturing for metal crafts, alloy vehicles, etc., mold making for materials such as epoxy resin, mold manufacturing for large cement components, design and production of high-precision prototype models, rapid prototyping design, and application in vacuum bag mold spraying.
4.50-60 Shore A:
This type of silicone product has a higher hardness and is suitable for applications that require higher hardness and shape retention.
Application scenarios: Similar to 40-degree silicone, but more suitable for applications that require higher hardness and wear resistance, such as fixture protection, silicone mold making for lost wax casting process, and silicone rubber buttons.
5.70-80 Shore A:
This type of silicone product has a higher hardness and is suitable for applications that require higher hardness and wear resistance, but are not too brittle.
Application scenarios: Suitable for silicone products with some special needs, such as some industrial seals, shock absorbers, etc.
6.Higher hardness(≥80 Shore A):
This type of silicone product has a very high hardness and is suitable for applications that require extremely high hardness and wear resistance.
Application scenarios: Special silicone rubber products, such as seals and insulating parts in certain high temperature and high pressure environments.
It should be noted that the hardness of silicone products will directly affect the use of the entire product. Therefore, when choosing silicone products, the appropriate hardness should be determined according to the specific application scenario and needs. At the same time, silicone products of different hardness have different physical and chemical properties, such as tear resistance, wear resistance, elasticity, etc., and these properties will also vary depending on the application scenario.
